👤 Signing up and logging in

How do I sign up for Rooms on desktop web?

On desktop web, visit Rooms.xyz and, in the top menu select “Create.” You will be taken to a blank default room. The first time you visit this page, a welcome window will pop up, from which you can choose to watch a tutorial intro, or take a tour of rooms. Once you’ve done that, click the X in the top right corner. From there you can click the “Sign in” button or profile icon on the top right of the page. Doing so will bring up the Sign In window from which you would normally sign in. Rooms accounts don’t actually operate through standard password practices– instead, you associate an email address through which you receive a login link. For Google and Apple IDs specifically, you are able to bypass the email portion through association, as long as you choose those options upon account creation.

If you choose Google or Apple, simply sign-in using your login info for those accounts. When prompted to sign in, choose Continue. Once you’ve done so, you will be prompted to choose a
username.  Please note that you CANNOT CHANGE YOUR USERNAME AFTER ACCOUNT CREATION.

The username you choose will be in the URL of every room you create, so try to be mindful of that :)

Once you agree to the terms of service & privacy policy, tap proceed, and voila! You have created your Rooms account!

How do I sign up for Rooms on iOS?

In order to save the rooms you make on iOS, you need to create a profile. To do so, navigate to the icon on the bottom right, and tap Sign in. Here you will be able to choose Google, Apple, or an email address to associate to your profile.
For Google and Apple, simply sign into your
desired account, and for email, type in your email address. For the email option, you will need to tap the link in your email, which will automatically open the Rooms app upon doing so.

Here you are able to choose your
username, which you cannot change.

Where do I go if I have login issues?

If you’ve already signed up and can’t log back in, first re-attempt with the method you normally use (Google, Apple, Email). For example, if you chose the Google option upon account creation, you will have to continue to use that method– choosing “email” and typing that google email address will not work. If you are still having issues, reach out to the Rooms team on Discord in the #get-help channel, or feel free to reach out via email at help@rooms.xyz

🆕  Getting started

How to create a room?

To create a room, you have a few options. On the web, the easiest is to click “Create” from the rooms.xyz menu and click the “Save button beside your profile picture in the top right.

Tapping save after choosing a name will take you to your brand new room!

In the iOS app, after logging in, you can tap the hexagonal plus icon on the bottom of the screen. From here you can choose from 3 preset room styles, or choose one of our many available bases– built by other users like you! on your avatar and then select “Create Room” in the menu.

Note that once you’ve saved your room, you are still in “edit” mode, meaning you can use the sliders at the top to freely toggle between editing your room and previewing it :). To exit this mode and view it as you would from a feed or your profile, save your room and tap the X on the top left!

How do I make a room without walls?

On desktop, you can toggle your walls from the Room Inspector on the right:

Clicking the check box next to Hide will hide the wall of your choice.
From here you can tap the + icon on the bottom left to open the library for a new wall, or to create your own!

On iOS, from the create menu, you can choose a premade room with the walls removed:

Once you do so, you’re not technically required to keep them hidden, but the option to toggle them exists in the room’s info panel. To access the info panel, make sure you have nothing selected, and drag up the menu bar above your room’s name:

By expanding Left or Right wall, you can toggle them in the room by tapping hide.
Tap the + icon on the bottom left of your room to open the Thing Library, and from here you can search “wall”:

Drag and drop your favorite wall into the room, and now you can build it with (or without) walls where you like them!

⚠️ Troubleshooting

Rooms won’t load?

  1. Ensure your connection is working. Try visiting a different website to ensure it loads properly. If that page loads, try closing the Rooms tab and navigating back to Rooms in a new tab.
  2. Ensure you don’t have “Hardware Acceleration” enabled in your browser. You can access this through the settings of your browser. If you have it enabled, it could be preventing Rooms from loading.
  3. Ensure none of your extensions are interfering with Rooms. Try disabling your extensions and loading Rooms again.

If you are still unable to load the page, reach out to the Rooms team on discord in the #get-help channel, or email us at help@rooms.xyz .

Where can I get code help?

Whether you are learning to code or exploring new features, the first place to start is with the documentation (rooms.xyz/docs) and tutorials on the Things YouTube channel.

For help, the Discord community is incredibly helpful. There you can find even more video tutorials, or post your question in the #get-help channel where a member of the Rooms team or the Rooms community can lend a helping hand.

What should I do if I think I find a bug?

Bugs happen and we appreciate your willingness to help us find and squash those that appear. The easiest place is the #bug-report channel in the discord.

In order to address the issue as quickly as possible, please provide as much information as possible. This includes:

Once you’ve submitted your bug report, we will do our best to address the issue as expediently as possible. Please note that you are still welcome to email us directly at help@rooms.xyz if you prefer.

💭Frequently Asked Questions

What computer “specs” do I need to run Rooms?

Rooms runs in your browser, so as long as your computer is able to run a browser, it will be able to access Rooms. If you encounter issues, ensure that you are running the latest version of your browser. If this does not resolve the issue, you can try another browser or reach out to the Rooms team in the #get-help channel on Discord, or at help@rooms.xyz .

What programming language does Rooms use?

Rooms runs on Unity but uses a custom Lua API for scripting—for more information on the API used within Rooms, check out https://rooms.xyz/docs

Can I follow creators?

Sort of, on iOS only. If you navigate to a user’s profile on iOS, you can tap a bell icon next to their avatar. Once you’ve done so, you will begin to receive notifications when that user publishes a new room!

How do I add things to the Thing Library?

To add your thing to the Thing Library, select your thing, then tap/click on the ⬆️icon on the bottom. This will send your thing to our team to undergo the review process. For more information about this process, please take a look at our Thing Library Submission Guidelines

Can I use voxel art created in other platforms?

Definitely! Rooms will accept .vox files. Just drag and drop them into the browser in the room you want on the web or import them into through the media library on iOS. Please make sure you have permission to use any files obtained externally before using them :)

What’s the difference between public and unlisted?

When a room is public, it will appear in feeds, searches, and your profile.
When a room is unlisted, it will appear on your profile (to you only,) but not in feeds or searches.
Please note that a room’s state does not determine its accessibility. This means that even if your room is unlisted, if someone knows the room name/URL, they can still access the room by typing in its unique URL.

Can I showcase my room outside of the room's platform?

Absolutely! Simply use the unique link and share away!

Can I embed my Room in a website?

Unfortunately we do not support embedding externally for Rooms at this time.

Can I rename my room?

Unfortunately there is no way to rename your room and retain its likes, views, and comments. However, if you would still like to change the name of your room under these circumstances:

Can I make a copy of my room?

Yes! Tap the overflow menu (3 vertical dots), then Save As. You can also do this on desktop by holding the shift key, which will toggle the Save button to Save As. From here you can save your room under a new name. Remember, the original room will still exist (until you choose to delete it!)

Can two people edit a room at the same time?

Unfortunately there is no way to co-op room editing at this time. Some alternative options to consider that we’ve encountered:
- Remixing back and forth, making sure to coordinate such that there is no overlap
- Sharing a throwaway email account
(We know, we know, this means one person has the password, and requires a level of trust, but we have seen it! This one also requires coordination such that you’re not saving over each other while simultaneously accessing the account.)

How do I delete my account?

Fill out the form at rooms.xyz/delete-account. Note that the deletion process takes 24-72h and while you will be able to associate the email address used with a new Rooms account if desired, this will not be possible until the deletion process is completed.
